Students make observations and write a report of a complex landslide which has destroyed the infrastructure in an area where under embankment are old mine galleries from Husnicioara Coal Mine.
Working in transnational groups, students will choose one of the prepared places for research and record their observations in field notebooks.
Landslide investigation presentation
On May 24, 2016, after a period with several heavy rains, the traffic on DJ 607A was closed as a result of occurrence of a major landslide which damaged the road embankment, situation which led to the isolation of approximately 150 families from Opranesti village. On a stretch of 500 meters, has appeared a crater up to 20 meters deep and a horizontal landslide, affecting the entire platform of the road and adjoining land.
Specialists in emergencies have found that the ceiling of a gallery from a disused mine from Husnicioara open pit, located under the road DJ 607 A and 17 A, crashed, damaging thus the roadway in both directions.
Following a technical expertise, they have determined that sections affected, with a total length of approximately 3 kilometers, can not be rehabilitated on the old site because the soil in the area is unstable due to water seepage and collapsed mine galleries.
If villagers from rural commune Husnicioara can reach Drobeta Tr. Severin only after a detour of 40 km, the most affected are residents of the village Opranesti, because they are completely isolated.
